Hoatzin (no.173)

10" x 10" / oil on wooden panel / 2018
"Hoatzin" was a commission created for the wife of a local patron.  She is an avid "birder" and he thought a painting of the Hoatzin (also know as the "stinkbird") was the perfect choice as they had come across these and a few other unique looking creatures during a recent trip to Peru.  It was a blast to work on and the major challenge was making sure the physical characteristics were precise and the Hoatzin was clearly identifiable.  I'm hoping that it was as wonderful a surprise to her and we hoped it would be.  On that note, I am always happy to consider ideas for commissions - please feel free to contact me directly if you have a painting project you'd like to discuss :)
In other news, "Plum and Lavender on Oriental Cloth" was recently given an honorable mention by juror artist Tom Dunlay in the Wellesley Society of Artists Spring Show.  Very excited to have my work included among some talented local artists!
